Studio culture
For over 20 years, we have put intentional movement front and centre. As legitimate lineage-bearers connected to Joseph and Clara Pilates, backed by tertiary-accredited Clinical Exercise Physiology, we take our craft seriously and fiercely protect your training environment.
We are an intentionally low-volume studio. We do not run an anonymous, drop-in commercial fitness model. We are in this for the long haul with clients who have a clear run at dedicated training, committing to a minimum of twice weekly.
Our space is rooted in Health at Every Size (HAES®), body neutrality, and genuine skill acquisition. It is free from diet culture, mirror-checking, and aesthetic competition. Here, purposeful movement triumphs over arbitrary physical appearance.
Non-Negotiable Studio Rules
Our guidelines protect your focus, client hygiene, and custom apparatus:
Zippers Are Absolutely Forbidden: Activewear must be 100% zipper-free. Zippers rip our premium leather upholstery and dent custom wood apparatus. Check your pockets, ankles, and jackets before entering.
A Respite, Not a Selfie Studio: Phones are strictly off and away. The studio is a quiet working space, not a content studio.
Smartwatches Off: If you are checking notifications or distracted by a screen on your wrist, we will ask you to remove it.
Hair & Hair Accessories: Hair must be securely tied back. Claw clips and banana clips are prohibited—they interfere with your cervical spine alignment on the headrests and crack against equipment.
Read the Room: If you are the only one talking across a group session, it's time to zip it. We encourage questions about the why of your movement, but social chatter breaks the collective rhythm.
Cleanliness & Fragrance: Arrive clean, with clean grip socks, and keep all fragrances at home to avoid polluting the space or triggering allergies. We provide deodorant and hygiene supplies in our bathrooms if needed. Chewing gum is strictly prohibited. A shower is available on-site for your convenience.
Jewellery Off: Rings, bracelets, and protruding jewellery must be removed prior to stepping onto the apparatus floor to prevent scratches and personal injury.
Arrive 10 Minutes Early: Latecomers are not admitted under any circumstances. Arriving early gives you the time to settle, transition, and complete an active warm-up so classes run uninterrupted.
How We Work: Studio Administration & Booking Boundaries
Because our practitioners spend their working hours on the floor delivering clinical care, we do not operate a live phone desk.
Communication: Email is our primary channel (studio@themovementrefinery.com.au). If an issue requires a call, email us first and we will schedule a dedicated time.
Intake Standard: All clinical care begins with a 75-minute one-on-one Initial Assessment, followed by 60-minute subsequent consultations or transition into approved group streams.
Recurring Bookings: A standing weekly time slot is a privilege reserved for committed practitioners. To retain your allocated slot, you must maintain a 75% attendance rate.
Cancellations: We enforce a strict 24-hour cancellation policy for Exercise Physiology and 1:1 sessions (12 hours for supervised group classes).
Waitlist Responsibility: If you join a class waitlist, you must be ready to attend. Waitlist notifications can trigger up to 30 minutes before class start time. Late cancellations or no-shows from waitlist placements are not refunded.
Right of Refusal: We actively protect our studio culture. We reserve the right to discontinue bookings or refuse service if an individual is not an appropriate fit for our community standards or code of conduct.
